5Don't be fooled by the low price for this item
By Richard Leslie de Souza
First of all, I must state that I am particularly pleased with the great selection and the top class service from Amazon. I have been an Amazon customer for several years now and this is my very first review. Thanks to those who had sent in their reviews which had guided me in the past. I wish to contribute with my own first review. This is an exceptionally top class performer. It is light in weight, feels very good in the hands, top quality and the image is exceptionally good for its low price. I am very happy to have made this choice and will highly recommend it. I had evaluated this against the top brands of binoculars in the market for astronomy including those in the several thousand dollar price range but eventually settled for this not because it was inexpensive but because I was looking for the best and I had found it.

5Celestron 8x42 Granites
By Sam Crowe
I first saw the Granite binoculars at the British BirdFair. I was very impressed and when I returned to the States I acquired a pair. I am an active birder and I love the Granites. They are not a true compact binocular but they are relatively small and light weight. The image is bright and clear all the way to the edge of the lenses. They have a wide field of view, over 400 ft, and a close focus distance of 6.5 feet - good for birders. Image quality and brightness very comparable to much more expensive brands, at least to my eyes.

5The Celestron Granite Binocular is the Spartan Beast in comparison to the competition ...
By D. Fowler
I own and have reviewed several pairs of binoculars, but by far the Celestron Granite Binoculars are the movers and shakers in their price range. If you are a birder, outdoorsman, or are working on your survivalist skills, the Celestron experience is one you might want to consider. There's a lot of power in these binoculars, but the lightweight magnesium body was a real plus when I was outside working with these today. If you are into astronomy, one thing the Celestron line excels in, the easy grip and lighter weight are a definite plus. These are 1.8 oz lighter than Vanguard's Endeavor ED 8420 and 3.7 oz less than the Zeiss Victory. If you are in the market for a decent pair of binoculars, chances are you'll be making a one-time purchase so you really have to do some comparison shopping. I've outlined the specs of my three other pairs so you think about what you want.

One little thought here is that the price on the Celestron Granite Binoculars is much cheaper on Amazon than anywhere else by a considerable margin. Another one is that you should purchase, regardless of what type of binocular you opt for is the Celestron LensPen Cleaning Tool for use with any of your optical equipment from binoculars to cameras (there is a small lens cleaner included). Back to the binocular discussion. You can actually adjust your interpupillary distance (IPD). The adjustment is a quick and easy process. You simply look at a distant object, "move the two halves of the binoculars about the hinge until you see on clear circle of image through both eyes." A "user manual" tells you how to focus these in a step-by-step manner. These do have a diopter indicator so can easily refocus at a later time, something that's especially handy if you're handing them back and forth between users.

You can wear these with or without glasses with a simply folding the Rubber Eyecups down. If you do wear glasses, I'd suggest that you keep them on for maximum focus. The rubberized eyecups don't bother my glasses and won't unless I have an accidental impact. I love it that these have tripod adaptability. Between the two objective lenses on the bottom of the binoculars is a logo ... simply unscrew that (it's on solidly), attach to your tripod, and you're ready to go. If you're watching something stationary this is a perfect option. Another nice inclusion I wasn't expecting was an adjustable binocular harness. This came is a separate case in addition to the canvas and faux-leather case for the Celestron Granite binoculars. It also has an excellent ergonomic strap that is foam padded, wide, and very comfortable around my neck.

The lens caps are singular on the objective lenses and can remain on the body of the binoculars as they just flip down. You can remove them if you wish, but I found they didn't interfere and certainly seemed to be securely attached. The top lens caps are molded into one piece, but are flexible and can be placed back on the eyepieces, keeping your previous focus. Judgment call here. I've given the specs for three other pairs I have, including one that is fairly similar. To put it bluntly, these were much better all around for my use. However, everyone's needs are different and you'll have to do your own comparison shopping. My vote is for the Celestron Granite because they just have that extra zip over their competition.
