My employement requires the use of binoculars on a regular basis. I've used all of the best binos extensively. I needed to purchase a pair for myself but didn't want to spend more than $800.00. After extensive research, testing and evaluating, I purchased the Vortex Viper HD 8X42. I couldn't be happier. I compared them side by side with a pair of Zeiss that were more than twice the price. In ambient urban light in the middle of the night, I couldn't tell the difference between the Zeiss and the Vortex Viper HDs. The Vortex glass is exceedingly crisp and clear edge to edge. Colors are true. The mechanics are precise and focusing is easy. I love the locking dioper which allows you to lock in your focus setting, specific to your eyes. In darkness of night I could read license plates 150 yards away just as easily with the Vipers as with the Zeiss. Great quality glass at an affordable price.
I've had these now for over a year and have used them extensively in the field, in the mountains, and on the street. They continue to perform well. They have held up very well--Vortex didn't skimp on quality of parts. I highly recommend any Vortex products; Vortex rifle scopes are also a very good buy.

For a fraction of the cost of the German counterparts, you get VERY CLOSE to an image of the caliber the Germans are known for. Superb build quality and incredible transferable lifetime warranty. That alone can not be surpassed and this is a purchase that will last for the next generation as well!

These binoculars are very good. A friend once told me that there is not much difference between a $500 pair of binoculars and a $1000 pair. He is Right. After looking at and through the $1000 binoculars, these will do just fine than you very much! I might or should have ordered the 10x50s though. Time will tell.
